Losing a product key is never a pleasant thing and in some cases, it is impossible to recover. Fortunately, you don't have to worry too much if you lose your Windows installation key, thanks to ShowKeyPlus. This little utility can retrieve the installation key for your currently running Windows operating system, along with other details. If you realize you don't have the installation key before you start reinstalling Windows, then you are saved.

The application is compatible with all modern Windows versions and it doesn't need to be installed. You can download the application and run it immediately, without worrying about any kind of special requirements.

There is not much to say about ShowKeyPlus, except that it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Once you run the application, it will immediately display your system's name, ID and installation key, as well as its OEM key. You can save this information in a plain text file, if you want to have your installation key written down somewhere. Double clicking the installation key on the user interface will hide most of the characters, so you can avoid over-the-shoulder peeks.

The same information can be retrieved from Windows backups as well. All you have do do is select the correct hive file on a standard Open dialog. Additionally, the application is capable of checking a product key, so it can tell you about its corresponding operating system version.
